Why do I cover the cost for using Azure AI Foundry in FetchXML Builder?
I’m pretty proud that I introduced the AI Chat feature in FetchXML Builder this summer. Like I’ve said many times, “I surely know more than a robot!”, but during the development this summer, I learned quite a lot about AI, and more importantly, I’m impressed by the knowledge it has in the Fetch XML area.
My experience with AI and this tool makes it more and more critical for me to release this new feature, so finally, I did it.
However, when checking my metrics, every day I see that only a few of my users use the AI Chat. Too bad… And more importantly, why is that?
Well, it’s pretty obvious – to use it, you have to set up an account at either OpenAI.com or Anthropic.com, and you have to put in $5 or $10, just to be able to start testing this cool feature. It’s very cheap, but it is definitely a threshold…
The cost is no biggie for any of us while being at work and using this tool for free, so adding a few bucks for the AI is nothing (almost),
But it is a tiny cliff to climb.
I had a few chats with the nullpointer guy Andreas (who helped me with this feature) about how we could make it possible to share my own AI provider, both technologically and financially. Can I give you this?
Azure AI Foundry
Azure AI Foundry can support a bunch of AI technologies, one of which is OpenAI, which we have already implemented in FetchXML Builder. Azure is in the realm of Microsoft technology, so staying in the area is good, since we breathe, sleep, and live in Microsoft’s world. (Weird? Oh yes, but just accept it. Okay?)
I have a few credits at Azure, can’t I use that to give all of you a chance to see what AI can actually do for us? Yes, I want to do that. At least to try it out, then we’ll see about the future…

Select this provider in the settings: Azure AI Foundry OpenAI: Free by Jonas.
As you can see in the box below, please fill in the form so that I can identify you. For safety purposes, I also need to have your contact information in case of an unexpected experience at my own cost, etc.
Either you can:
- click on that (i) on the right of the provider in the settings, which will get you to the form
- save the settings and open the AI Chat and see the yellow box explaining what you need to do.
Note: I will NEVER let the information you send get into a CRM system. No ads. Nothing. Unless I need to contact you. Okay?

Sharing as Caring is my mantra, and I genuinely believe that it is better for you, me and my soul than trying to keep it for myself.
As I mentioned above, I want to urge you to test it and learn. Either it will be an Eureka feeling, or more like “Nice try, mr AI robot, but I know way more than you, bye bye, try again next year.” I like it when you learn. Period.
During this journey, I have learned a LOT. I’ve been in the coding area for thirty years (crazy long time), and it’s, of course, a bit up and down. Still, I’m sure you agree that when it’s hard to sleep because your brain is stuck on finding a way to solve my problem, when solving one small part of it, you learned something, and it goes again and again and again – the feelings are just pure happiness.
Note: I share this for you to learn, and I have to add “Don’t use it in production environments.” Then I leave it like that. Use your own judgment.
Easy to learn
One recent lesson for myself was that retrieving with a distinct flag is bad for the performance… Well, okay, I knew that already 😉, but you know that this feature might help both me and you a few things here and there!

I am sharing this new extra feature with my tool. Why? Because I have to. Because I can.
I am caring for you, and I don’t know why, but it’s rewarding, it’s fun, and it adds quality to my soul. I’m surely no Saint Teresa, so I guess that’s why I create tools for you. Now the tool has elevated to another level.
I am learning a lot, not just about using AI, but also about setting it up, how to create a healthy infrastructure, finding the balance in which type of technology, and probably a bunch more that I’m slowly learning.
